HOW WILL I LEARN?

This course offers students a selection of exciting subjects that will provide a broad understanding of freight forwarding and the logistics industry which is currently experiencing skills shortages

This Award offers students the opportunity to progress onto Level 8 degree courses in Logistics at TU Dublin and Business courses in DCU, TU Dublin, NCI and Maynooth University.
Also students can progress to Level 6 Logistics Associate Apprenticeship or use the Award to go directly into employment within the industry.

At any one-time, millions of tonnes of goods are on the move around the world. A Freight Forwarder is a dynamic career in an industry where there are constant demands for people with knowledge and understanding of the business.

Throughout the year students will participate in a blend of classroom and on-line learning, together with off-site visits, presentations from industry leaders and independent study.

You will receive Practical Customs Training provided by the Irish International Freight Association (IIFA) which, Post-Brexit, is vital for employees of businesses who trade with the UK and countries outside the EU.

You will also receive Manual Handling Training which is necessary for work in the warehousing or distribution industries.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

A full Award is granted on passing the relevant eight components. You will be assessed throughout and at the end of the year (Continuous Assessment). On successful completion of each component, you will be awarded a Pass, a Merit or a Distinction grade.

This course is particularly appealing to those who are interested in the Supply Chain – the flow of goods from point of manufacture to the consumer both within Ireland and around the world.

CAREER/PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

The Logistics & distribution industry is experiencing skills shortages across all sectors. This course together with the Customs Procedures Training, will ensure excellent job opportunities in the Logistics and Supply Chain industry.

On successful completion of this course, you can progress to the Level 6 Logistics Associate Apprenticeship which is industry based or progress to a degree in Logistics in TU Dublin or Carlow IT as well as Business in DCU, UCD, TU Dublin and Maynooth University. Past students are with DHL, DB Schenker & DX Ireland and attending Third level.

Students may progress to participating Higher Education Institutions (HEI’s) through the QQI Higher Education Links Scheme.  This Award links with Logistics, Supply Chain Management & Sustainable Transport Management Degrees in TU Dublin as well as Business degrees in DCU, UCD, TU Dublin and Maynooth University. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Leaving Cert./LCA
  • Applicants must have attained a Pass grade in Leaving Cert Ordinary Level Maths or equivalent
  • Students who have/are taking LCA or Leaving Certificate Foundation Maths must sit a short Maths test in Killester College as part of the Application process.
  • Students  who may not have formal academic requirements but who have the ability to successfully participate on the course will be considered. (RPL Recognition of Prior Learning)
